There are definitely times when pregnancy feels like it lasts an eternity—so much so that you eagerly await the arrival of your little adventurer. Then, a few weeks later (usually after the birth), you’ll realize that those nine months actually flew by. You might even miss this special time. When nostalgia starts to set in, you’ll be glad to have a few keepsakes from these moments, so we’ve compiled four ideas to capture your pregnancy .
1. Pregnancy photos
Photos are a classic way to document the development of your baby bump. You can choose the format that suits you best. A truly special pregnancy photo shoot : as a couple, with family, at home, or outdoors—just let your imagination and creativity run free. You can also decide whether to book a professional or ask an amateur photographer, your partner, or someone close to you. Each option has its advantages. A professional photographer is experienced, knows how to capture the best shots, and will take care of all the editing. With someone you know, you’ll likely feel more relaxed in front of the camera.
Regardless of your choice, these tips will help make your photo session a success:
-
The ideal time to take your photos is usually between your 6th and 8th months of pregnancy : your belly is nicely rounded, you’re feeling good, and you’re still mobile.
-
Choose clothing that you feel comfortable in. Keep in mind that your belly will be the center of attention, so you may want to choose outfits that highlight it. Tight-fitting clothes will hug your curves. For colors, it’s best to stick to timeless shades: white, beige, and soft tones. Avoid loud colors, and the same goes for patterns. Opt for simple, understated pieces. If you feel comfortable with your body, you can also choose a pretty lingerie set or a negligee.
-
Pose in front of a neutral background that contrasts with your clothes; this will highlight your belly even more.
-
Think about accessories you can playfully include in the session. This could be baby shoes, an ultrasound photo, balloons, flowers, or jewelry such as a bola.
-
If you don’t have a clear idea of what you want yet, you’ll find plenty of inspiration online: poses, outfits, and style. Take a look before the photoshoot to gather ideas, but keep in mind that each session is unique, and your photos should reflect you! ;)
Not used to being in front of the camera and feeling a bit anxious about the session? Don’t worry—put on your favorite music. It can help you relax, move with the rhythm, and try different poses.
If photoshoots aren’t really your thing, you can simply photograph the progress of your pregnancy and your growing belly. Take a profile picture every week or every two weeks with the same background. You can also photograph your belly’s growth from your point of view.
2. Pregnancy notebook
Over nine months, your body changes in many ways, and you go through a wide range of emotions. After the birth, it can sometimes be hard to remember every detail. A pregnancy journal that recounts the whole adventure is a wonderful way to relive it. You can note your feelings and thoughts, your observations and sensations, as well as important milestones such as finding out the news, the first kick, or the photo from your first ultrasound.
Later, you’ll be able to tell your little adventurer everything you felt while waiting for them. If you don’t want to create a journal from scratch, you can buy a fill-in journal.
You’ll simply need to answer the included questions and add your lovely keepsake photos.
3. Belly Painting : painting on pregnant belly
Originally from the United States, this is a new trend among pregnant women: belly painting, or the art of painting a pregnant belly. A beautifully rounded bump makes the perfect canvas to let your imagination run free. Let your partner or a family member—such as your eldest child—take the brush, and you can be sure it will be a lot of fun. You’ll find plenty of inspiration and pattern ideas on Pinterest. As for materials, a few brushes and some paint should be enough. Water-based paint is best, as it should be gentle and non-irritating to your skin.
4. Plaster cast of the pregnant belly
With a plaster cast, you can immortalize your pregnant belly. Was your little adventurer really in that small space? Once you’re holding them in your arms, seeing it in three dimensions will feel incredible. ;)
Ideally, you should do this molding four to six weeks before your due date . That way, your belly is nicely rounded, and you can still stand or sit without too much difficulty. It’s a great activity to do with your partner, who will be in close contact with the baby. You can find ready-to-use kits that include all the necessary materials; of course, you can also gather them yourself.
You will need to:
Newspaper
A pair of scissors
Hot water
Napkins
Vaseline-type body balm
Drywall strips
Sandpaper
Painting and decorating materials (optional)
Instructions :
Cover the floor with newspaper to protect it from potential splashes.
Unroll the plaster strips, cut them into small bands, and keep them within reach at hand .
Generously apply body balm to your entire stomach and chest so you can remove the mold more easily.
Get into a comfortable position that you can maintain for a certain period of time. If standing tires you, opt for a seated position; your back should be straight.
It's time for your partner to get involved: have them dip the plaster strips into a bowl of hot water, wring them out, and place them on your body. For a smooth, neat finish, the plaster strips should be smoothed out.
Once your stomach and chest are covered with two to three layers of plaster, all that remains is to wait a few minutes for the plaster to dry.
When the mold is dry, and with the help of your partner, carefully remove it. Place it in a dry area, protected from humidity, and let it dry overnight.
The next day, smooth the surface using a piece of sandpaper.
If you wish, you can decorate your mold with acrylic paint, glitter, or any other creative materials.
And there you go! :)
Pregnancy is a unique and unforgettable time, and we hope these ideas help you create lasting memories. Enjoy the final weeks of cohabitation with your little one! ;)
