11 ways to use sweet almond oil

Why choose this versatile oil? Key benefits and uses explained.

Do you remember the media buzz about coconut oil? It was praised as a versatile oil, useful in the kitchen as well as in the bathroom. Other plant oils can be just as versatile. This is the case with sweet almond oil, which is particularly suitable for baby care thanks to its excellent tolerance. But that’s not all! In this article, we present 11 ways to use it on your skin and your baby’s.

1. Huile de massage

Carrying your baby can quickly create tension in your back, shoulders, and neck. A gentle massage with sweet almond oil is a real treat. The oil helps your hands glide more easily over the skin and prevents irritation from friction. Compared to other oils, sweet almond oil has the advantage of not being absorbed as quickly, so it stays slippery for longer. These bonding moments aren’t just for you and your partner—your little adventurers love massages just as much.

2. Huile corporelle

Unlike body lotion, vegetable oils should be applied to skin that is still damp. Simply apply it after your shower; you can wait a moment before drying off to enjoy that extra hydration. When it comes into contact with the skin’s natural moisture, an oil-water emulsion forms, helping provide the hydration your skin needs. Unlike when applied to dry skin, the oil absorbs quickly. For your baby, sweet almond oil is particularly suitable for caring for the diaper area.
Sissi Rasche, midwife LILLYDOO and expert in infant care, recommends it from birth. To ensure the oil forms a protective barrier, it’s best to apply it to dry skin. What’s more, because sweet almond oil is especially gentle, it is generally well tolerated by babies with neurodermatitis.

3. Huile de bain

Although bath time for young children should be limited, it can still dry out their delicate skin—especially if you live in an area with hard tap water. In that case, adding a splash of oil to the bathwater can be helpful. The nourishing oil forms a protective film on the skin, so you may no longer need to apply moisturizer after the bath.

4. Gommage

A scrub with sweet almond oil and sugar makes your skin soft in the blink of an eye, leaving it feeling beautifully cared for. The recipe? Mix one-third of a cup of sugar with one cup of sweet almond oil, then pour the mixture into an airtight container for storage. You can also add a few drops of essential oil to scent your scrub. For a particularly intense exfoliating effect, you can replace the sugar with sea salt. Make sure the salt grains aren’t too large, as exfoliation could become irritating.

5. Huile pour le visage

After yet another night when your little adventurer needed all your attention, your tired mom or dad face might surprise you in the mirror. ;) Luckily, sweet almond oil doesn’t just moisturize. It can also help reduce redness and, thanks to the minerals and vitamins B and E it contains, it may also help with the appearance of wrinkles. After applying it, your face can look much fresher. Here too, massage the oil onto damp skin.

6. Prévention des vergetures pendant la grossesse

Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed way to prevent stretch marks caused by pregnancy. However, by moisturizing regularly—especially the areas most prone to stretch marks—with sweet almond oil, you can help keep your skin supple and reduce the risk of stretch marks. Applying the oil can also help relieve the uncomfortable tightness of your growing belly.

7. Élimination des pellicules dues aux croûtes de lait

Slightly unsightly dandruff on your baby’s head often appears during the first few weeks of life. It is a harmless skin irritation that causes no discomfort to your child. If you’d like to remove it for cosmetic reasons, sweet almond oil can help. Gently massage your little adventurer’s scalp with it and leave the oil on overnight. The next morning, you can carefully comb out the flakes or remove them with a soft cloth. Since cradle cap can be confused with atopic dermatitis, it’s best to discuss it with your pediatrician if you’re unsure.

8. Démaquillant

As a mom, you’re usually happy if you even find the time to put on makeup. And then, of course, you still have to remove it all. With sweet almond oil, you can take off your makeup in no time. Just put a few drops on a damp cotton pad or a washable cloth and gently wipe it over your face.

9. Soin capillaire

Sweet almond oil not only hydrates dry skin; it can also help with dry hair. Although there is no evidence to support it, it is commonly believed that the biotin it contains may promote hair growth. In any case, the oil smooths fragile ends and adds shine. After washing, simply apply a little oil to your lengths—just a few drops—to prevent your hair from looking greasy. For a more intensive treatment, use it as a hair mask: apply it from the roots to the tips, leave it on under a shower cap for at least half an hour (the perfect time for a cuddle with your little adventurer ;)), then wash your hair.

10. Huile de rasage

Whether for armpits, legs, or a beard, sweet almond oil is an excellent substitute for shaving foam or gel. It softens the hair and helps the blade glide more easily, while soothing skin irritated by shaving. It can help prevent redness and spots, leaving your skin smooth and soothed.

11. Soin de la barbe

Finally, here’s a tip for all (bearded) dads: sweet almond oil is excellent for caring for your beard, keeping it soft and helping you tame unruly hairs. The oil also cares for the skin, helping to reduce itching. With such a soft beard, your little adventurer will no longer complain about prickly kisses. ;)

Sweet almond oil shows that “less is sometimes more.” We suspect that in the future, the bottle will more often be in your bathroom than on the changing table. ;) All that’s left is for you to enjoy all these sweet moments!
