You parents know how quickly children can get bored, and finding something to calm them down or keep them busy isn’t always easy. Water games, especially for little ones, can be a lot of fun!

Water games to play outdoors

If you haven’t planned your vacation yet but the sun is shining—and it would be a shame not to enjoy it—here are a few alternative ideas to have fun at home, too!

  1. Fill a basin or bucket with water and add a few drops of neutral soap (preferably eco-friendly and suitable for sensitive skin) to create a soft foam.

  2. Place the container on a waterproof surface, keep a towel nearby, and… let the bath begin!

  3. Toss the toys into the basin: rubber ducks, little boats, and small aquatic animals. If your child enjoys listening to stories, have fun inventing a few—or decide which character you want to be and start an adventure together!

  1. Fill two basins with water and place the “fish” inside one of them (ping-pong balls or bottle caps large enough not to be dangerous for your child).

  2. Then give your child a skimmer, a ladle, or a colander to fish out the balls.

  3. Every time they catch a “fish,” cheer them on and have them place it in the second basin of water.

  1. Prepare colored ice cubes by adding a few drops of natural dye and some pieces of seasonal fruit to the water.

  2. Prepare a small inflatable pool or a large basin filled with water, and drop in all the cubes.

  3. Put your child in the small pool and watch as they become enchanted by the colorful ice cubes melting and revealing tasty pieces of fresh fruit inside. The water will also change color, which will be great fun for them.

*This could be an alternative way to teach them colors (if they are old enough and have already started saying a few words).

Another fun game is to challenge your child with the “water challenge,” which involves transferring water from one basin to another (empty).

The tricky part? You can only use a sponge! Ready? Go! Who will be the first to succeed?

A day dedicated to relaxation, and after the games? The snack!
