Sara Sálamo is a film and television actress. She is also known for her activism for women's rights and animal rights. In this interview, she tells us how she has experienced the journey of being a mother to Piero and Theo so far.
1-What is the strangest thing you've found in your bag since you've become a mom?
Exactly! Last week, in front of my coworkers, I pulled out a wet baby bodysuit... My son had spilled something the day before, and I didn't take it out. I just woke up and grabbed it!
2-What is the song that calms your baby the most? And the one they enjoy dancing to with you the most?
To fall asleep, I sing songs from "La la land." To dance... anything danceable! We usually play different types of music and let our bodies move freely.
3-How long can you watch a series? Have you finished an episode in one go?
Yes! We've set up our routines so that mom and dad can watch a series or a movie while they have dinner. It's our time of day.
4-What is it that you wouldn't change for anything in the world for being a mom?
¡Serlo! There is nothing I would change about the experience. I am learning a lot, even about myself. I am amazed at loving in such an intense way.
5-What things have you learned about yourself since becoming a mom?
I have more patience than I initially thought. I have learned that the level of self-demand I used to live with is neither necessary nor healthy. Learning to let go is important. And finally, I have learned to look at everything in a calmer way... My goals have multiplied, and knowing that two people depend on my decisions and attitudes has made me much less egocentric.
6-What golden advice would you give to a friend who is pregnant for the first time?
Make sure you surround yourself well in the postpartum period. Be with friends who are mothers, in a parenting group, breastfeeding... It's a lonely stage where your feelings are very close to the surface... I believe it's necessary to have good support nearby.
7-What are the most Google searches you've made since becoming a mother?
I made one that makes me laugh... “differences between Braxton Hicks contractions and labor contractions.” Now, with some distance, I would tell myself: Relax, you will know.
8-How has your refrigerator changed since you became a mother?
Almost not at all! I've added some yogurts, but little else. I've been practicing mindful eating for a long time. It's rich in fruits, legumes, and vegetables, which is the same as what my children eat.
9-How has your way of celebrating Christmas changed since your mother?
I have always liked and enjoyed Christmas, but seeing things through their eyes is truly magical. I want to capture every second...
10-What are your wishes for 2022?
Good health and work for everyone.
