10 maternity questions with Isabel Jiménez

MomLillydoo: Practical Baby Care Tips and Parenting Inspiration

Isabel Jiménez is a journalist and news presenter. She is currently also part of the project of Slow Love, a brand she launched with her close friend Sara Carbonero. In this interview, she tells us how she has experienced the journey of being a mother to Hugo and Daniel so far.

1. If you try to consume sustainably, are you also doing so with your baby's products?

Whenever I can, of course. In fact, what I like most about LILLYDOO is that they have committed to a sustainable line, both in diapers and wipes. I do it with toys, too, and I try to choose ones made of wood or recycled materials.

2. Are you in any WhatsApp group of mothers? If the answer is yes, are you one of those who have it muted or do you participate actively?

I'm not at the moment, and I hope not to be, although I don't know if I'll manage. Right now, I keep my WhatsApp groups limited. I'm much more inclined to call and talk directly than to have conversations via chat. If I have to do it someday, I might not have any other choice, but I firmly believe there are other, more practical ways to communicate.

3. What phrase from your mother did you hate and have you ever said it to your children?

The one I hated most was the lack of explanation when they told you, “You do this because I say so.” For now, they are very little, but I try to give Hugo all kinds of explanations—probably more than he expects.

4. Since you became a mom, have you ever been told that "if you don't get everything done, it's because you're not organized"?

That person would be in serious danger if they told me (laughs). Sometimes reality far exceeds fiction, and I can assure you it's not due to a lack of organization. You have to accept that sometimes you just don't make it, and that's it.

5. What do you talk to your baby about?

Even the CPI (laughs). About everything… I've talked to them since they were very, very little. I describe what we see on the street, I tell them about my day… and that’s where current events come in, through my work. I really enjoy communicating with them, and I try to share what happens to me in a completely natural way so that they do the same with their things, in their own way and with their own language, of course.

6. What three things have you learned about yourself since becoming a mom?

I've developed a patience I never thought I would have. I've learned a lot about healthy eating, and I've discovered and read a lot about positive discipline.

7. What are the most Google searches you've made since becoming a mother?

I’d also tell you: positive discipline, Baby Led Weaning, how to deal with a tantrum (I'm at that point now)…

8. How has your refrigerator changed since you became a mother?

We already ate healthily at home, but now I try to avoid any kind of ultra-processed product. There are lots of whole oats of all kinds (flakes, flour…). Now I buy dates and carob flour for their cookies and desserts. My friends look at me badly when I mention it, too.

9. How has your way of celebrating Christmas changed since you became a mom?

We have always enjoyed celebrating Christmas—dinners and meals with family—and at home we are very much into the Three Wise Men. But I believe that this year, since at least Hugo is now aware of everything, we will experience it all with much more excitement.

10. What are your wishes for 2022?

Share as much time as possible with the little ones and enjoy
this beautiful stage as much as possible—so tough, but one that passes very quickly.
