It’s the phrase you’ll hear most often when searching for a birth gift: “Just give diapers—new parents can always use them!” And yes, we get it. Bodysuits, socks, and bibs are lovely, but at some point, you’ll have enough of them. If you don’t want to hand over diapers in a plain package, you can easily turn them into a creative diaper cake! You can tailor it entirely to the recipient’s taste, decorate it with small toys or care products, and gift something that’s both practical and beautiful—how lovely!
This is what you need for the diaper cake

61 small rubber bands
3 large rubber bands
2 paper towel tubes
3 meters of twine
1 cardboard box with a minimum diameter of 32 cm
1 sheet of craft paper in the color of your choice
61 diapers, for example our LILLYDOO diapers with pretty designs
Scissors
Adhesive tape
Ruler
Compass or one very large and one small plate
This is how you craft the diaper cake
1. Start by rolling each diaper individually and securing each roll with a small rubber band.
2. Draw a circle on a cardboard box using a plate or compass, about 32 centimeters in diameter. For this, you can, for example, use one of our LILLYDOO diaper boxes. Then cut out the circle.

3. Cut the first paper towel tube into four sections, each two centimeters long, at one end. We also show you exactly how to do this in the video below. Fold the four resulting flaps outward and glue the tube in the center of the cardboard circle. Attach the second tube underneath for extra height.
4. Now it’s time for the diapers: place six rolled diapers around the cardboard tube at the bottom and secure them with a large rubber band. Arrange the next 12 diapers around them and tie them with the twine. The third row of the bottom cake layer is then made from 18 diapers.
5. Next comes the second cake layer: first arrange six diapers around the cardboard tube again, then secure 12 around them.
6. The third cake layer completes the whole: arrange six diapers around the top part of the cardboard tube.
7. For the cake topper, or the “little tower,” roll a diaper very tightly and insert it into the cardboard tube at the top.

8. Now cut the gift ribbon: you’ll need one piece measuring 115 cm, one measuring 75 cm, and one measuring 50 cm, as well as three pieces measuring 35 cm each.
9. Cut each of the remaining three rubber bands once so you have three open rubber bands.
10. Tie a bow with each of the three short pieces of ribbon. Then wrap each cake layer with a ribbon of the appropriate length and secure the bows with the open rubber bands.
11. Draw a circle on the colored construction paper using a compass or a bowl. Cut out the circle and make a slit from one point to the center. Then form a cone in the desired size and secure the sides with tape. Finally, place the hat on top of the diaper cake.

The video tutorial for the diaper cake
In the video, Isabelle and Fabienne show you step by step how they crafted our LILLYDOO diaper cake.
Once the diaper cake is assembled, you can decorate it entirely to suit your style. Whether you’re making a diaper cake for girls or boys, you can get creative with colors and decorations. Of course, you can also make your diaper cake gender-neutral. For decoration, you could, for example, attach a few packs of , or a high-quality care product like our to the cake—things new parents can always use. Or you could hang a few chocolate or muesli bars on the finished cake. After all, the parents shouldn’t be left out, and with a little baby, they’ll surely need plenty of energy. ;)
We hope you have lots of fun crafting and gifting!
